IDPs allege FG neglect

Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at the Gurku Interfaith Camp in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, yesterday said they were being abandoned by the federal government.

Their leader, Ibrahim Adawata, who spoke on their behalf while receiving the founder of the Good Samaritan Foundation, Counsellor Funmi Ademilua, said some of the displaced persons had malaria and pneumonia due as a result of inadequate medical care. He said the Lifeline Compassionate Global Initiative with support from the Swiss Embassy built a mini clinic at the camp but lacks medical personnel and drugs.

He also appealed for schools, sleeping materials and food at the camp which he said presently had a population of over 1,000 persons. He expressed delight with efforts of some nongovernmental organisations which sent in relief materials.

The leader of the UKbased foundation, Ademilua, said she chose to spend her birthday at the camp to identify with the needs of displaced persons. She said her foundation advocates for the voiceless, and would help take their demands to the government.
